41 and on the move?

Its been a week since i came back from covering a fishing tournament in Rompin Pahang, national day has passed and perhaps its been a while since i posted, i gotta be honest, i'm not all that active and what not on blogging, but i'll do whatever i can to update this space as much as i can.

The tournament concluded on the 6th August, and the news of Singaporeans taking the top placings, yes placings not placing, and to do a bit of shameless publicity for this event, it is an international event involving participants from 14 countries and its been running for 4 years already, a bit of history would put it that a Singaporean who came in 2nd for this year was actually the champion last year.

My question here is simple, why isn't this covered in the main stream press here in Singapore? I mean with national day only a few days away from the completion of the tournament, myself and a journalist took the oppurtunity to forward this piece of news to the TODAY newspaper, but from what I see there wasn't even an official response from the paper on this.

And yet i thought our very own leaders were on the lookout for Singaporeans with talent and to make known this sort of acheivements to the public at least, i mean this ain't just catching Ikan Bilis or small fish, its Game Fishing involving grabbing a fish of at least a whopping 50kg! And heck it ain't easy i tell you, i even have difficulty getting a catch from those fishing trips i go for.

To put forth as we celebrate 41 years of independence, enough of this nonsense that patriotism comes only during the 9th August and the days before it, i mean yes we celebrate our achievements and what not, but lets accept that nobody's perfect and we make mistakes and we should be held fully accountable for those mistakes, and not simply sweep it under the carpet, as we continue to pile more shit under the carpet it will eventually stink, and hell its gonna be hard to get rid of that stench.

Many readers of China's history might recall the events of the Hundred Flowers Campaign imposed by Mao Tze Tung during the early days of communist China.

Now let us look at the events befolding the infamous Singaporean Blogger Mr Brown, i certainly recall Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's speech in encouraging Singaporeans to speak up with different views.

How is this in any way encouraging alternative views? Or is just another trap to lure those with dissenting views into the open and then taking the advantage to suppress them and incite fear amongst the population with the phrases:"Obey or else you'll suffer".

Of course perhaps the crackdown here won't be as severe as the good ol days of the Chinese Revolution, but let us ask ourselves the question whether it might come to that one day?

Alas i've spoken enough on this point, we need to take action and support our fellow Singaporeans and hold the Government accountable for its actions, woe to the PAP for using the reasoning that it has been voted into power as a legitimate cause for implementing of its ways, i ask them if whether the votes casts are casted on the basis of fear or a genuine lack of an alternative? Was there really an unbias view of the different political parties here during the election period or was there not? And nevertheless crippling opposition parties through the process of court through defamation suits?

Stop being Kids my dear PAP, and stop preventing this country from becoming a truly first world nation.

Seems that the Ministry of Communication & The Arts (MICA) has gone on a blitz to downplay Mr Brown's views on matters concerning the country.

Well for a fact, its up to the reader to decide on his/her views on the article, and whether they would want to take it seriously or for something to ponder on, to note that the article is published in the voices section of the Today paper, 'silencing' dissent views a.k.a desperate to give a political label to the infamous blogger.

In my personal view, he is still a constructive critic and he is proactively attempting to engage the reader to provide suggestions and solutions to daily issues, ain't that what the 'comments' or 'write us' section is for? Besides why is the ministry sidelining him in this way? Rather than engaging him instead, unless they are so sure they have the solutions or should i say ideas that they possess in mind, as a matter of fact they were voted into power after all, engage us leh...you say one what.....

Besides is the Government really acknowledging the rising costs having to be taken by a majority of Singaporeans? Jack up the bills yes, but think again whether a huge sum of the taxpayers money is going somewhere else of a lower priority than the main priority which is the Citizen first, the hardworking Singaporean.

Is it truly Globalisation? Yes one of the 'many' factors for rise in costs, has the Government taken steps to acknowledge its own faults? That i've yet to see, and perhaps a whole load of other concerned citizens as well.

And causing cynicism and despondency? Man......

Talk about using another's experience for ones gain

I've been reading the blog of Michael Yon for well over a year or so, the infamous blogger cum amateur photographer and observer of the ongoing wars in Iraq & Afghanistan, he is currently pursuing a lawsuit against a huge ass media conglomorate for copyright infringements, find out more on his site with the link above and the support link i've just added to the right.

One of the many reasons for me supporting his work is his representation of the soldier's point of view from the frontline, some may dismiss his articles and such as propaganda but i for one think otherwise, coming from a military familiy myself i have asked the question a dozen of times, if a member of your family is involved in a conflict far away from home, and perhaps if anyone of them were to die in that conflict, i would want to know why he/she went to fight such a war and for what believes he/she died preserving.

Many of us in this time and age forget that blood has been spilled for our lives to prosper in their loss, and certainly shocking when people take it for granted, than perhaps they may have died in vein, i might be Singaporean but i do greatly appreciate the Men & Women of the Allied forces during the 2nd World War who fought against the facist and imperialist occupiers of our time and brought us hope and a future.

I do not yearn for National Service, my due entry in December, but i believe that NS has a purpose and that purpose be fulfilled by my contribution to the armed forces, in whatever they assign me to do, i'll do it to the fullest of my being. This is no public propaganda from from the Government. Its a personal call of duty and my personal philosophy in doing my best whilst serving my time.

So think it through, if you are going to serve, or have already served, you are not serving the Government, the Generals, or perhaps your Sergeant.

You are serving your loved ones, you aren't alone.

Moving Along

Got back from a Church Retreat about a week ago, a good respite from Singapore
is always welcomed, especially when society as a whole doesn't seem to be heading anywhere this days...... but alas its our job to make sure it heads in the right direction.

Good to know theres always a bunch of folks whom i would say is one of many greatly cherished communities i have a joy to be part of, Christians of Salem Chapel, Sons and Daughters of the most high.

Set aside July to September to visit the folks, seems i can't go there for 3 months unless my parents pays a huge sum to the gahmen as security if i 'wander' off...

Gonna be quite busy with projects and what not, but do pop in once in awhile for an update.

In the meantime, i've opened a blog entitled 'Singapore Media Watch' and i welcome contributors to submit analysis of articles for submission, this is indeed a first step in ensuring that Media Bias in Singapore is not directly channelled to one side of the story.

2006 and Onward, What Now?

The volunteers and SDP members had a post-election dinner and a debrief today, it has been a long 2 weeks of campaigning, especially with all the troubles that have been created for the party way before the hustings began, i believe quite a number of viewers to this blog would ask me a common question, why the SDP?

We managed to garner 24% of the vote in Sembawang, i won't want to make excuses but at the end of the day, i would invite any of you, to step into our shoes and see for yourselves the sheer height of the troubles that we have to undergo, yet alone ensure that our message gets out to the voters.

I mean with the lawsuits hitting the party's CEC, the backing out of the printer that publishes the election material, and the last minute refusal of the contractors to help us at our rallies, is just some many of the problems we had faced.

Its saddening to know that when i talk to my friends and tell them that i'm helping the SDP, it is usually greeted with immediate distaste, no thanks to the local media at all for their biased views which effectively brainwashed much of the populace to their liking.

I can say the experience i had seen this past few weeks, is really something that even the ruling party or the other opposition parties might have the pleasure of not having, we were the only party that is demanding for reform in the entire political system here in Singapore, nothing else, a level playing ground where the candidates mettle can be vetted by the electorate, and not through the dirty ways of buying the vote.

I just pray and hope that in the coming years, Singaporeans would wake up and see what is really wrong in this country before its too late.

The Dream comes true

Just 2 days ago on wednesday, after 8 months of production work Singapore Dreaming made its world debut in Singapore for the Charity Gala opening of the Singapore International Film Festival, for my bosses, the directors of this film Colin Goh & Woo Yen Yen, its been many days with the occasional lack of sleep mixed together with the stress and anxieties that involves making of a film, and of course the headache attempting to get potential audiences to watch it.

I huge load has been lifted from their shoulders as the premiere came to a close, well received by the audience, from a mix of laymen to the elite of society, it received the applause which it finally deserved, the climax of all the hardwork put forth from the Directors, producers, cast and the crew.

It was well worth it my fellow comrades in production, for me personally the premiere of the film ironically coincides with the closure of my studies at NAFA, its been 3 years of painstaking studies and hardwork to refine my creative juices and as well as the skills required for this line of work, i thank Colin + Yen Yen for giving me an oppurtunity of a lifetime to work on set and as well after the actual production work was completed to focus on the film's publicity.

I can say it has been a dream come true, not that i always dream of dreams that were to my liking, but this is sure to be one of them.

So do watch out for the commercial release, expected in August 2006

SDP's Secretary General Dr Chee Soon Juan has been released from Prison on Friday after a seven day sentence after refusing to pay a fine of SGD6000 after being found guilty of contempt in court, he was greeted by his family and fellow supporters.

This will be his forth time being imprisoned since he chose the path of opposition politics in Singapore almost a decade ago.

Losing a bit of Humanity

I can say this week has been one helluva week....

Firstly miscommunication caused me to work through a night without
sleep to get labels printed out for our works which are gonna be
displayed for visiting fellows from UK.

Secondly, having been falsely accused of not doing my job properly which is definitely false (directly related to me not having enough sleep), this idiot (His name shall not be mentioned) having volunteered to handle the planning for our works to be displayed for the NAFA open house which has just started yesterday rudely demands why certain articles were not printed out which they were but not under my care.

One of the things that comes to mind from that sort of talk in my face when first stepping into the class was to give him a taste of his own wrongdoing, i wonder why people don't think before they speak but in any case i managed to restrain myself from slamming his neck onto the wall and choking him, i never did show anger, i just kept the heat in me and chilled, and from demanding an answer from him i replied rather gently that it wasn't my job and most of the work was being handled by our lecturer so he should ask him if he wanted an answer, i did my part of the job.

At the next moment he tripped and fell (He was holding on to a couple of planks not realising he was rather weak to handle a bunch of them) and landed flat on his back, too bad i didn't had time to take my camera out to snap a picture if not it would be up here, i can say that was a bit of poetic justice that assisted me in cooling down from that brief moment of angst.

The good thing is the class as a whole was kept busy with the setting up of our works for the open house for me to even react the way i did initially in the later hours, but i just felt what would have really happened if i did physically assualted this fellow, would i even gain a bit from this? Probably a reprimand or a suspension, perhaps some of my peers would agree that he was being an idiot in asking me that question the way he did, perhaps that would have thought him a lesson? Probably a change for the better if the choking didn't kill him.

Just as a flood of thoughts flushed through my head in that few seconds, i was reminded that i am no better if i had chosen the latter, the reasoning aside if i did it, i could have killed someone, and that would have caused a load of shit for me.

But i realise God is merciful and gracious in his ways, having reacted the way i did i somehow managed to understand God a bit better, and knowing this has given me great joy, but i always wonder why anger often leads us into doing the unthinkable, anger has been a historical phenomena, it has been responsible for wars and genocides. But til today this problem has not been solved, i guess in the past week the big anger issue on the news has been the publishing of caricatures portraying the Islamic Prophet Mohammad with a bomb strapped onto his head.

People are dying because of the creation of such cartoons, and i can say the rather irresponsible justification of publishing it because it is a right, little that the Newspaper that published this cartoons has failed to realise is that their actions will cause some of the most violent protests to emerge overseas, and probably the needless deaths of many, least i must say that the respondants to the cartoons being the Muslim world, shouldn't act in the way they are right now, it doesn't do any form of justice but just more bloodshed.

So i say let us be more tolerant of one another, be it when we or the other party are in the wrong, for when a man gets killed, he doesn't come back.

I have always been an advocate for the military.

Heck, i was born into a military family, my father thought and showed what it was
like to serve the nation for almost his entire life, though in the process of that
service he was one of the men who brought the reputation of this nation up to a higher
level.

Its men such as my father that continue to inspire thoughts of self-lessness and due duty
to a country which in fact might not even return you a scrap of service, they simply forget
that you ever existed, a piece of thrash basically you become.

Why such a system? where scholars instead of true soldiers become the ones that get the recognition, all
the benefits from the taxpayer's pocket and at the end of the day, never get their policies no matter how positive
or optimistic they might sound even through the basic level of the SAF, the footsoldier, the National Servicemen.

I'm going to be blunt, we have no darn choice to defend this nation, many would want the chance to end up like a friend they have met who was born overseas and has the choice of not ever serving at all, i always rant at the sad fate of 2 years going up in smoke, of whether i'll be of a sane mental state when i get out, would i be able to make a living for myself? Yet continue studies in a good positive manner? Or would it just be saluting crap idiots who exist in the SAF for the sake of doing so? Do they even deserve my respect? Have they bled for this nation as per the glorious SAF advertisements would make us believe? Its always the scenes of men coming down choppers, jumping out of perfectly good aircraft and tanks rolling on open field, wheres the blood? Wheres the gore? Where are the screams of our men in No.4 who get hit? Body-parts and what not? Where is it?

To summarize my point is this, we are not prepared for war, we might think we are but we are not. Our officers don't have respect from the men who will do the fighting, most of the people we are drafting in don't have the attitude anymore to even fight or take training seriously, incidents are growing and what can we do about it? Recruits can threaten Sergeants with a phone-call, what sort of an armed force have we become? One of weenies i feel.

If one cares for his loved ones, family, pah we all heard this before, have we even laid a thought to what that really means? Or is the social fabric of the nation i would say in a state where simply nobody gives a damn anymore to family and friends? Its every men for himself now i see.

Cambodia 15th-22nd December

This post will be a photo-essay of my first Cambodian experience, apart from the new fancy airport terminal that greets me when i step out of the aircraft, one might see Cambodia as a nation undergoing change, after having been ravaged by war and genocide, i'd ask myself the question how a nation full of potential can simply just shoot itself in the head and almost send itself back to the stone-age.

Fresh as it can be

Its a very cooling time in this part of the year in Phnom Penh, one might often treat the city as a haven for cheap shopping, however for me and the mission team i was attached with, shopping was not the main concern of our trip, part of our first day schedule was to visit the Genocide Musuem (Tuol Sleng) and the Killing Fields at (Cheong Ek) in which we conducted a prayer walk to pray for souls that perished during the reign of the Khmer Rouge and for reconciliation to take place, the focus of the prayer walk was to allow the remains that have been left behind to be given a proper burial so as to allow the past wounds to heal.

Such is the torture and suffering at Tuol Sleng that even suicide is prevented.

Its with a sheer sense of humility as I walked the sites where this atrocities have taken place, its so surreal as if such acts never happened, but the evidence was everywhere, you cannot ignore it.

The remains of the fallen still lay.

One of our guides from Antioch Missions based in Phnom Penh explained to me how he never got to know his father and mother, he was orphaned and taken cared for by his relatives following the tragedy that befelled him, he was fortunate, many more children of his time would have just been abandoned or recruited and brainwashed by the Khmer Rouge to continue their acts of barbarism.

My posting won't be the last of the many who have seen what i have seen, they share the same thoughts that i have written here, its up to the most high now to get this country back on its feet once again.

Later on and the following day was occupied by talks conducted by fellow members from the team, one such session was conducted at a Church named the "Church of Christ", i've got to meet kids from the pre-school that was being run at the church, it fills me with such joy to meet such innocent youth with so much hope in their eyes, it is this new generation of Children, spared from the atrocities of the past that will bring the new found hope Cambodia needs.

With a reflective start to the trip the weekend was occupied with the team attending a local Khmer wedding of a missionary who graduated from Bethany International University (Formerly known as BSM) a few years back.

And the team split up on Sunday to attend services being held at 4 different churches, the Sunday afternoon was spent at the Church Of Christ for a christmas event the church organised for youth in the surrounding neighbourhood, it was a time of song, sharing of the word and for fellow youths in the mission team to interact with the local youth.

With the weekend over, the team set off for the Northern town of Kracheh which was about 300 kilometers North of Phnom Penh, the initial half of the journey was dealt with the frequent bumps in the roads and the convoy of 3 vehicles managing to tolerate the rough conditions.

As the convoy neared itself towards the town of Kracheh, one of vehicles sustained a blown tire and they were delayed for a few hours, the members in that vehicle managed to spend the time mingling with some of the local villagers by the road where they were touched by the warmth and hospitality of the locals, such were the offers of a place to stay if they couldn't find a solution to the blown tire.

The entire team made it to Kracheh safely despite the events that occured, a late dinner at the Mekong Restuarant allowed for sharing of the day's events among the team.

Dawn arrived and the team moved on to conduct a day-seminar with the antioch mission based in Kracheh, the attendees comprised of local Christian Leaders.

The team prayed for the attendees before concluding the seminar.

It was here in Kracheh where i was again greatly touched by the children that roamed the centre, they were just happy, with the hope i've never seen in my many years in Singapore, it was just a different feeling to be with the kids.

The team came across a boy whom was recovering from complications from inhaling a dangerous dosage of fertilizer, the team prayed for him and the other children joined us in praying for the boy, may he recover soon and resume his normal activities.

Short was our stay in the town of Kracheh, time really passes by too fast sometimes, the next day was spent returning back to Phnom Penh, on the initial start of the journey the driver of the lead vehicle sensed that a tire was not in good shape and stopped to inspect the vehicle, his 6th sense was right and a rear tire was seen unfit to carry on the journey, such was the quick response this time round that saved a bit of time and from preventing a more serious incident from happening.

God was indeed watching over us.

We arrived at Phnom Penh just as the sun went down, the city once again greeted us with heavy traffic as the convoy made its way back to the hotel for the last night, after a short break at our rooms the team headed out for a last minute grab of some clothing before settling down for dinner.

The day came where we had to say goodbye to Cambodia, it was a great first trip and will be the foundation of my many future trips to come, i'll be back sooner than i expect it.

I hope to set up a gallery soon for this aren't the only photos i've taken on the trip, and definitely there are many more things to share from the other members from the team of their experiences in this short-term mission trip, it has touched me greatly and sure something is being planned for the near future.

As the year draws to a close i wish for us to reflect on the many things we have been blessed with, to humble ourselves with the many things we have and be content.

Its upon the sheer stance of Murphy's Law i almost got myself into shit again, the internet wasn't working (No thanks to Starbum nb.....) the past night as i was rushing a dateline and i totally misunderstood the assessment timing for Monday(Yesterday), yes woe to me for not getting my work done at the soonest possible hour, but nevertheless i missed out a point in the time table for my Research & Comm studies project "Hand in by Friday 12pm", whilst the assessment date was 7th Nov 1330Hours.

Thank God i made a gamble by handing up a half done piece of work and was requested by my lecturer to hand up again on Friday, talk about being heng lol.

Although i urge the school to highlight the the point of handing up early apart from the other timings in which we have significantly gotten used to in the many previous time table we have seen in red and not put a small note down there, its supposed to be readable by all including the blur or unattentive :P

I intend to start uploading photos more intensively again, been taking a break with the camera.

Decisions Stay

I have been over the past many weeks been following and reading the sentencing of the Australian Nguyen Van Tuong to death for Drug-Trafficking, my honest opinion at first would be one of sheer sympathy for the accused, life is precious after all and shouldn't be wasted over a small amount of powder i've said.

Of course not all would share my sentiments, would i call this other group of individuals just people who want to see death for the sake of seeing it? Or was there a bigger picture behind this saga?

Lets face it, this is not the first time we have hung someone for trafficking drugs here in the small dot. We will never know the exact figures but i can know for sure the hangman has earned his fair keep from manning the gallows to ensure the law is carried out to the fullest extent.

Was Nguyen clearly aware that if he got caught trafficking drugs here he would be prosecuted and summarily hanged? I wouldn't know but all evidence points towards he had knowledge of it and went to do it anyway for the sake of his brother, good soul he has but what good has he done for his brother anyhow? The drugs never got to its final destination, he is going to die and all of his family will have to mourn for him, everything is lost but nothing gained but more sadness indeed.

Laws as we all know are in place for obvious reasons, i do not wish to offend Australians as i know there will be some who are quite emotional over this saga, we as a country will never bow to external pressure to make an exception of anyone, the laws are in place for a reason for the clear fact that we need to ensure drugs are kept out of the country at all times to safeguard the public, drugs do only bad, nothing more. And so is our government's attitude towards this matter.

So as another poor soul heads for the gallows, let us think, we might scream and shout and hold concerts to appeal for one man's life, but have we ever considered whether we are just making noise or truly making a point that executions should be abolished?

It'll be hard to think of it as good rather than the bad.

One of those rare occasions where colleagues/classmates, states something that can be either fact or fiction to you, especially if its a plain single point of view on perhaps your bad habits or just what makes you unique.

Any matured mind would clearly point out that any certain flaws an individual might have can be somewhat a positive point apart from it being negative, an example i would put out is someone looking at a math equation involving the letter A, one might just say A=A, while another would think for a while that A can also be A=AB,A=BA etc....

When someone says i do not take other opinions or views and just accuses me of instantaneously rejecting a particular opinion that might come to my view, i will and would reply to such an accusation with tact, i do at times instantaneously reject certain views or opinions due to certain reasons i will stick by or just by plain common sense, my close friends and probably people i've worked with would know that i am someone who views all angles but firmly draws the line when need be, DO NOT say that i always claim myself to be "Right" or whatever that might be, i claim a particular clause or situation that comes to pass to be "Right" due to a list of reasons listed from A-Z.

Writing this post is partly from sheer emotion and the need to make a factual point, this might be rather direct at someone i know but its plain simple and whether you take it hardly or lightly i do not care, do not make a point of view or comment when you only know half the story, its plain ignorance and hypocritical especially if you do not check yourself blattering and your actions afterwards, its simply humourous to me and trust me might get yourself into deeper shit in the future. I've had my share of situations i have come acrossed and definitely one has to humble himself, i for one cannot claim i've been humble all the time, but am working towards it.

Forgiven is the one who learns from his/her mistakes, i just hope instant forgiveness can be a part of me but i'm still human.

I'll be critical of policies when i need to be, many might think me of being "Anti-Establishment", i don't disagree but let me get this straightened out, i'm Pro-Singapore and will continue to be so til the day i die, til the day my fellow countrymen can finally look at their lives and give a relieved sigh of it being good.

I had the brief moment of meeting some of the protestors whom infamously got "pwned" by a crapload of police in riot gear down at robinson road a month ago, now for my bit of honest and balanced reporting, these are the above average Singaporean Blokes and are really nice chaps apart from what the local SG media would want to portray them as a "Public Nuisance" or was that the police or perhaps another group of people claiming it to be so? I need not go further, in doing what they do best, to keep quiet and fly their placards out to get the message accross to the public, Harm or No-Harm done? Its for the rest of the world and the Singaporean Public to decide.

I respect the Justice system for what it is and what it has accomplished this many years since independence, especially for the fact they don't tolerate stupidity at all and gives the hand to whomever has crossed the line.

So for this time round, let judgement be passed on whether stupidity or fact has been shown in this recent event that has taken place, or have we become so darn ignorant that we just sweep it under the carpet? Come on...... we are smart right??????

Just recently i met a friend in which i have not seen for a long time, two big differences between him and me, its obvious, he converses well in Mandarin and Hokkien while i obviously the home grown "ACS" kid am unable to speak mother tongue for jack...

Its rather sad when reality sips in not in a pleasant manner but an unpleasant one, this friend of mine told me 'Are You Chinese'? in that very confrontational manner, turning on the defensive i told him right smack in the face 'I am Singaporean! Not necessarily a Chinese'.

And its like God just demanded for silence after i made that remark, one has to judge whether there were any winners in this short argument, speaking of which I was just about to order dinner at the corner kopitiam down the road when my poor self was attempting to order some bits of food in mandarin, as one uncle was scooping some veggies for me another one of his "kaki"(Buddy) said quite aloudly "Ang Moh"!(Foreigner or Westerner) trying to justify that i was one, i ignorantly just walked away quietly pretending not to notice but honestly a huge bit of frustration brewed up in me when i heard that statement.

Its sad to know when certain members of the public are outwardly ignorant and arrogant that the only bit of country they know is the small corner in Ang Mo Kio or in Toa Payoh, having trotted overseas several times, one has to really condemn this sort of behaviour, where has the respect gone for our fellow man?

End of the day coming back to our Ex-PM Goh's speech about 'Quitters and Stayers' one has to see the fact is whether individuals like me who are Singaporean are welcomed in society, so end of the day is it about being a old chinese junkie and not that of talent and good character? Once i realize that this piece of soil at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula does not welcome me anymore i shall make a quick departure for definitely my God-Given talents and skills are needed elsewhere where there is a decent respect for our fellow man and the things we do.

Shitload of new features, color lcd screen and the ability to view photos as well, not to mention "impossibly small". Its a dream come true with 4GB of storage space.

Was deciding on whether to settle for a new phone/PDA/mp3 player. Guess i've already made a conclusive decision upon receiving my paycheck for a weekend worth of hardwork (Apple sure does have a good timing).

Boy i can't wait, certainly beats carrying a laptop all the time with regards to previewing photos and doing the usual self-administration.

Was reading the 'States Times' today, and yes i'm sorry for introducing an article in which is a mirror image of a situation that we Singaporeans have to live with for the time being but i feel that this needs to be put into context.

As per the article labelled "Sept 11, 2005, Singapore hails Mubarak's win" one has to question whether its Singaporeans as a whole or the Lee Dynasty welcoming a President of a foreign country back into power, the fact of the matter is that the States Times had failed to present the fact that only a small percentage of the population actually bothered to vote.

Mubarak together with Singapore's Ruling PAP(People's Action Party) have enjoyed successive "re-elections" back into power, the key point is whether the elections are fair or "pre-planned" to entice a bias vote for one party to win.

Back to Singapore in general we never had any fair form of elections apart from the ones before we acheived independence, lets put it this way, the Lee Dynasty is probably congratulating the Egyptian President on being able to get re-elected in a atmosphere of a free-media and balanced reporting while any foreign media is suppressed from making any negative statements about the gahmen and the ruling party.

Lets stop saying "Singapore" congratulated him and just single out LHL+LKY and their cronies, the article should be Singapore's PAP congratulating him and not label Singapore, for the PAP is not Singapore.

Iconic represenations?

The latest buzz in the State Media is the selection of a national icon, well end of the day if i were to select an icon, i would select one worth of this country's history and true facts that really represent us.

IMHO one icon is not enough to describe this vibrant city scape, many would always view the usual merlion or perhaps the esplanade to among one of the choices, well how bout a true Singaporean political icon, i mean to go with the great names of Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King or Nelson Mandela for that matter.

What outsiders might often view as the pinnacle of Singapore's success its always the founding father of the PAP (People's Action Party), the great confucious inspired lawyer LKY. But in recent days and times, his successes in the past are beginning to fade away as per the days of yester-years.

Theres a fine line one would draw between a Government viewed as a dictatorial regime and one of openness willing to accept the viewpoints of all no matter how upsurd it might be, end of the day its always the people that have to make that decision right? We are no longer kids, we can be independent and that includes our ability to make an informed-choice, when the day comes where i can cast my vote as a Singaporean Citizen i want the ability to make the choice without being threatened in anyway.

So yeah if the PAP wants us to act, they have to let us act, for they call themselves THE PEOPLE'S ACTION PARTY, if you think you are doing the right thing let the people decide your fate, not your anxieties.....

The Road Ahead

At this point in my life, yet another marker i have passed on the journey, how i felt looking back at 20 years of life, certainly with its many ups and downs but nevertheless progress as i see it and getting much better each day.

Looking to completing this academic year and graduating, not to mention going for an exchange program to Canberra which is still "99 Percent" confirmed, and flushed out all that Pre-NS nonsense usually we SG males have grew accustomed to and i can say i'm looking forward to it. The country has called 2 years of my live away I'd might as well go in, tough up and be a soldier, wayang or not ain't no matter but its the attitude that counts.

I recall the times back at Barker, being the M.R(Media Resource) chaps, I guess without us they can't get any assembly going, the DMs or the principal would have to get their voice boxes crackin if it weren't for the mike setups and what not, the usual delay in the playing of the national anthem if we didn't get the cue after the 'Sedia!'. Haiz those were the days of the unsung "heroes", we didn't expect much but just humbly did our jobs and kowtow to the senior blokes in the club.

What kept us going was the occasional 'Thank You' from a parent, staff or principal that at least took a brief moment to acknowledge us for that job well done.

"5Cs"On Set

It has been a joy to have been shooting photo stills for the "5Cs" a motion picture since principal photography commenced on the 22nd July.

It has Really extinguised the many myths i think exist about film making and the realities that come with regards to it, basically "On The Job" training as well, working with a professional crew is one of the best things i have ever accomplished so far in my working life, the genius of the Husband and Wife directing team with a great story to tell.

Being pushed to the limits of the creative process is always a mental challenge, nevertheless production timings might always end superbly late but passion is the driving force for me here.

Shooting will end on the 15th, and i will really miss the making of this production.

True Singaporeans

Think i'll just follow up other bloggers on the usual pre-national day rants, you know the usual "left-right-left" regimentation and sort of nation building initiatives our all so creative gahmen claims for themselves, themselves eh?

Recalling back a Straits Times article hinting the cutting of the Birthday Cake for 40 years of nation building and guess what? The MIW would be the ones at the podium doing the honour, i mean come on... getting paid "peanuts" is not enough? They dare steal the real honour which goes to the average hard-working Singaporean and those who brought the name of the country out of Singapore and being who they are and being the true patriots they are? Politicians be politicians, always have a stick up their arses all the time.

That i understand.

But perhaps time to think through where all this "National Day" racket is going, i mean we pay our taxes, the gahmen claims cost-cutting measures need to be made, but still enough moolah can be spent on annual parades and not for upgrading, subsidies, salary increases and last but not least financing our scholars who end of the day come back just to stick a rod up their .... and get paid peanuts.... now now i guess accounting statistics include peanut wages and not anything else less than a peanut what a pity.

So this national day, we have about half of our wages sitting in an account we can't touch, struggling to pay the bills, send our kids to school(Not married i am, but being a son one must know what his parents have done to send him to school), getting reprimanded for no obvious reason and being overworked to the core that sometimes the suicide statistics are often more untrue then whats published.

As this year's national theme song goes "Reach out for the skies", sounds a bit like "The Best Is Yet to Be", sometimes i wish the former has a better motto than that for it doesn't really state any form of achivement but "Still" going towards one... sheesh ain't the idea supposed to be achieving goals and moving on to achieve more goals?

Let us think this Independence Day, shall we hentakaki on and on or march forth in all aspects of nation building including politics.

Just the usual monday blues, or so i thought.

Been hearing all about this Student Exchange Program to Canberra, well the usual thinking is well probably the "best" student with excellent academics and the ability to "appease" the higher hierachy of the school's somewhat defunct system and that he/she would have to go through some financial strain to make it down under.

Well seems the suitable candidate dropped out as the strain is rather hard to bare, i mean there comes the oppurtunity i can say not many have the privilege to live in another culture or experience the new world.

Having received the offer to go... well i might just take it yeah? We'll see...

A Price on Things

The usual Sunday, getting the beat right during worship service etcetc, not to mention a sneak preview at a phone coming out into the market pretty soon from an employee of Nokia who coincidently attends my church too :) Kinda blessed i guess he drives one of the latest Volvos you can get on the market this days.

Well anyway back to the phone, i mean look Wi-Fi, 2MP Camera with outstanding quality and a Zeiss lens, i mean what could go wrong ya know? Except the hefty price tag of about SGD1000, yeah the usual dumbfounded look on my face. Yeah Yeah you people with the money to change phones almost everytime one comes out, a corporate piggy bank i say, sadly i have used my moolah to "indulge" in the art of photography but yeah at least i earn quite a handsome bit and am securing a career for myself.

Let us look back @ the "Live 8" concerts, we know what they are campaigning for, i mean its for the Starving/Aids Ridden/War Ridden/Corruption Galore Africa yeah? I mean some of us are very calculative people, ask yourselves this then, a thousand smackeroos and a choice to spludge it on the latest handphone gadgets or contribute a dollar to save a single life, i mean its a thousand lives that can at least have a decent meal for just one miserable day... you get the damn picture.

So basically lets stop ranting and asking God why those blokes in Africa are starving the death, firstly there are already people dying at our own doorstep, and definitely choice is something the almighty has bestowed upon us.

Here was the situation when victory was within our grasp but a whole load of idiots with heavy firepower don't wish to cross the bridge to reinforce the blokes which included me parachuting in to clear the way for them...

We ended dying a very miserable death by the swarm of gay-assed nade spamming/expacking whores on the Axis side... in which we could have overwhelmed and kicked ass if they crossed the bridge....

Its only a game, but nevertheless i think this would happen to us if in war and those true soldiers get their asses kicked because of a bunch of morons slacking behind the frontline.

Too old for partying?

Good ol glen pointed out to me that usually saying one is too old is a lousy excuse to avoid parties, to keep the next bit short of an excuse to go partying is fairly simple, i hate the fucking noise, i like to keep to myself and to avoid a massive dose of alcohol being used as a tool of shame by many a folk out there this days so basically for short i hate partying and there is always a better way to spend ones allowance or salary.

A good quiet barbecue as i've always seen it is the better alternative, well good thing i never succumbed to any sort of pressure to do something i don't deem fit, no offence to anybody who might think otherwise, this days i rather be honest than going round bushes to avoid showing my real thoughts, simpler for blokes to take the straightforward-ness then remaining skeptical and sometimes too cynical for any intellectual intake.

Then again i know school starts today the 11th July, and again i didn't get any notification from the school or my Class Rep, til... the SMS came in while i was snoozing away..... oblivous to the fact there was class in the morning.

Of course i tried accessing the damn school intranet to check for my new Timetable, those damn "idiots" aren't doing jack to improve or update it, everytime after logging in it seems i have to constantly log in after the index page attempts to load itself for my viewing pleasure...

So much for attempting to begin school on a good note.

I ain't no journalist, but end of the day if i intepret it correctly, journalism is supposed to shed the light on the truth on many an event such as this one or the ones prior to it and give an equal and fair priority to any other.

Yes we show our sympathy to the victims of the latest terror attacks on the London Tube but end of the day i hope and wish that the media in general do their jobs more to dig up the real truth behind the attacks,upon having a discussion with several of me blokes today and looking back on the 9/11 attacks it seems rather upsurd that several events on that fateful day happened... and yet remain to be explained, were the terrorists really behind the attacks? IMHO i say yes but as always we ask the question who opened the "Door" for them to do it in the first place?

I mean we always seek justice for the wrongs others do to us, end of the day where is that justice? I ain't no American either but end of the day if given the chance to be in their shoes i would feel the same way and will attempt get to the truth whatever the cost may be, lives were lost... more lives lost due to the "Imperialist" wars declared by Mr Bushy, whenever there is war casualties will include military and civilian, i condemn terrorist attacks and i also strongly condemn wars based on blind judgement for the hidden agenda of a Politician and his Cronies.

Here's a bit of truth in our rather cynical world we live in.. spare a thought.

Well just came back from a NDP rehearsal where the SAF showed its strength to not just a local but international audience because of the IOC meeting, stretching its muscles i would say for the "sake" of doing so heh.

SAF Day was also celebrated yesterday, a tribute to our Nsmen and Service personnel for the hard work to keep this land our own, for the matter to mention the recent deaths of a few of our servicemen whom i would say died during the prime of their lives, got a shock that a 19 year old instructor at Tekong just collapsed and died, and i thought i was old....

Well they can't find no explanation for his death, rather disturbing ain't it? I would be..

Time to go horizontal, what a tiring day from 6am til 8pm today :-/

I can say this is one of those days where sitting or lying on a couch has become a particular routine, especially when
the weather doesn't persist any form of outdoor activity, but well i can say at times in Singapore we complain its too hot when there is no rain and again we complain when we get too much of it.

As now i know down here in Tamworth in NSW Austrailia, the blokes here had no rain since the starting of the year and
would they have the right to complain? Definitely yeah...., at least their farmers are able to start cultivating winter crops for
their well-being and survival, a total world of a difference between the country folk and us city dwellers, sometimes we have to think of the good things the great almighty has done for us, i mean even the small things and alas not constantly rant about them.

As per the title, the temperatures hit 2 Degrees at night plus not to forget the added dryness and i tend to take in more water than usual, my first contact with the local blokes are from the church my parents have settled into, as open and comfortable they are and really great talking to them about daily living and such, well definitely felt alienated as per the "reserved" culture back in Singapore, the aussies really spend alot time wanting to talk, regardless of the topic at hand and i guess that really helps, even personal rantings as well.

2 different worlds i guess, but what can i say we all are different but all the same under the eyes of big brother, below are pictures of my home, enjoy.

Landed down at Sydney on a early 28th morning, fresh air and clear blue skies to greet me, well
what a way to start a vacation, lotsa photos to take, lotsa places to go to and of course a blog to update with whats happening as i go along the days to come.
